Well a few weeks ago my funding came together and I got a Delorme PN-40. Some quick thoughts on the unit.

I really do like it. They just came out with a firmware update and this has made the unit very much better for geocaching. It includes a geocaching mode. Can load the full cache description (upto 15000 characters) field notes. Displays the Geocache.com icons. Much better WAAS performance. Has a plug in for GPS Send on Geocache.com.

I am still learning this unit but I really do like ...

Didn't know if I should put this in this section or not. These are links to HeadHardHat's Geosnippits. Short and informative (At least for me) videos on Geocaching.

http://www.geosnippits.com/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvWBOPxHBnM

These should be good for newbies, showing people about caching and even the vets may learn a thing or two.

Enjoy,

I had 11 at the start of the day. 1 more for 30, OK for alot of you it's not a big deal, but I'm a newbie, let me bask in my glory. I logged them all one at a time but I know there is a way to upload from cachemate to GSAK and then hopefully to Geocaching.com. How do I do this?

It's amazing what GSAK will do. My computer guru and fellow ham Del N8OFP is a beta tester with GSAK and has come up with some amazing uses of the program. All I need to do is plug in the GPS and hit a macro button for unzipping my PQ, loading it in GSAK, then it loads my GPS, creates the Palm file and puts the file in my Palm upload, then finishes off with creating the Mapsource file so I can print my maps. Some of the macros and info on how to load them can be found at http://www.geochums.com/forums/index.php?showforum=46. ...

I like the paperless feature, but I never use the direct download. I still use GSAK to organize everything, then I send it (Upload or Download I am never sure what that is called) to the GPS.

I also use a Nuvi 200W in the car. It is very clunkey getting to the cache, but if you look at the map instead of letting the Star Trek voice tell you where to go ...

The best caches I did there had to be the virtuals. There were ones in this park in downtown Phoenix that reminded me of being in Washington D.C. with all the memorials to the fallen soldiers. The most inspiring was the actual anchor of the USS Arizona, which went down in Pearl ...

It is paperless caching, and a GPS built in. Also it works with Google Map to give me a satellite view of the cache area! This is so cool.

I do not see were this should go so I put it here.

On 3/7 some of the BACON crew are going up to the GPS Adventure Maze in Rochester NY. I hope to make this my 1000 find. (I am slowly working toward that). If anyone want to go or get more information then go on over to the "Bacon Area Cachers Of Note" forums (I think bacon.freeforums.org) and see the thread there.

The GPS Adventure Maze has it own little icon in on geocaching.com site. I am not sure what it is all about but ...

While hiking in the PA mountains last week (private property, no caches), I was playing around with my Garmin 76 keeping track of our group's adventure, and I got tired of holding my GPS. I wanted to put it in one of the pockets in my fishing/canoeing vest but all of the pockets were too small. I was afraid it would fall out during the hike.

Hi folks,

Similar to what other organizations in the area have done in the past few years, BACON is hosting a lonely cache challenge contest. We are pulling the lonely caches from a PQ going out 40 miles from the courthouse in Butler, PA so there will likely be several out in your neck of the woods at some point during the contest. There are prizes too!

If you're interested, you can check out the details at the BACON forums (http://bacon.freeforums.org)

It had everything that makes a cache great, then some that the owner didn't plan for.

It had a code you had to crack

It had spiders, lots and lots of large spiders

It had adventure

It had muggles

It had it all

We walked miles for this one, not because we had to, but because one key part of the puzzle (the map of the park) was missing, and we just took every path except the one we should have. Also did I mention the spiders. ...
