Uses of GSAK

Post  Bryan KF8G on Sun Jan 04, 2009 1:10 pm

It's amazing what GSAK will do. My computer guru and fellow ham Del N8OFP is a beta tester with GSAK and has come up with some amazing uses of the program. All I need to do is plug in the GPS and hit a macro button for unzipping my PQ, loading it in GSAK, then it loads my GPS, creates the Palm file and puts the file in my Palm upload, then finishes off with creating the Mapsource file so I can print my maps. Some of the macros and info on how to load them can be found at http://www.geochums.com/forums/index.php?showforum=46. You may have to do a bit of searching, but it will be there. I can also log cache finds on my PDA, upload it to GSAK. It will then pull up the cache page, click found and the date, right click my log onto the page, and just click submit to log the cache. It then creates a found file that you can go back and look at your logs. Amazing stuff indeed!!!

Anybody else have a cool macro they use to help with caching?

Re: Uses of GSAK

Just getting started and just started using GSAK. I want to get a Palm and go paperless. I was loading info into Excel spreadsheet. I like GSAK but I can't find a way to print the notes. If I get the Palm then this may not a big deal. But until I get set up for paperless I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions or a way to print the notes and hints using GSAK.

Thanks,
Paul

What I do is just go to file and hit print. Then I choose the condensed HTML button, and let it go. This prints almost all of the data for the cache.
You get the difficulty ratings, the last five finds (or more importantly DNFs) the cache write up, and the hint. It does this for all the caches in the database.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, give me a call.

I like having everything on one sheet if possible so I don't have to lug around a bunch of sheets. I really like GSAK because it has all the info in there just not the notes and hints. I tried to export it to Excel but it puts everything on one line. Any suggestions or GSAK just can't do what I want.

Thanks,
Paul

I now have a Palm with Cachemate and have alot of GSAK figured out but haven't tried to load from Palm to GSAK or log finds on geocaching site yet. Will look at the above link for the macro.
