Food on the road

Post  Bruce on Thu Mar 19, 2009 8:22 pm

So do you guys take all your food with you for the day or do you hit restaurants? Or maybe lunch on the road and dinner at McD's

Oh Man I am a "Hit the local places" fan for everything! Be it caching or not I love the non-chain places to eat.

Now usually on a caching day I am thinking of what breakfast place I can hit before we start, then cache through lunch, and hit someplace for dinner.

I have been known to go miles out of my way for a good breakfast.

Mark, no need to go miles and miles for a good breakfast! If I'm heading that way, I like to stop at the 7&14 truckstop - their sausage gravy and biscuits, and homefries, are out of this world!! Well, everything's good! And not expensive, either!

Hey, my wife and I just went to this place for supper, and they're open for lunches, too. Maybe if you can get away for a lunch break some time, you could head west on Mahoning Avenue, past Calvary Cemetery by several blocks, to a little hole-in-the-wall called Paprika Cafe. How many different kinds of pierogi have you had? They have probably 15 or 20 different kinds! They have Hungarian ethnic food (the leczo is great!) and the not-too-daring can get a hamburger or something if they want.

The Hungryman Special is hard to beat! Although the Truck Stop is often a late night place to dine...

For breakfast I do have to stay loyal to the place where I worked for several years... try the scrapple!

If you're in the Ellsworth area early in the morning, I would recommend Young's for a good breakfast. I know BDM is a big fan of the Circle in Deerfield too.

Food on the Road

Having cached with BDM for the past couple of years, I always bring a "goodie" bag with us along with water and ice tea to drink. You got to keep hydrated. We have also found the local cuisine on the road, to be quite tasty and an adventure. There are some local places out there that truly hold their own. cheers Cool Cool
