Re: HI, I'm Bobbie Jo
The Summit is a good GPS. I don't see you having any problems with that unit. I had the Etrex H, it didn't have an electronic compass, but it did have the compass screen that pointed at the cache. The only bad thing with it was it had a serial port hookup instead of a USB hookup. It is clunky hand loading waypoints, but through GSAK it was a breeze. When you get your Summit, you will still use the Nuvi in the car, and the paperless micro, but it will be so much better with the hand held over the Nuvi. I found my first couple of caches with the Nuvi, and it wasn't much fun.

Re: HI, I'm Bobbie Jo
that's all actually great to hear! i hate spending that money & not really knowing that i'll like it! i have found about 12 or 15 or something with the nuvi alone, but some of them weren't very close to where the nuvi said it should be & others were dead-on. i feel much better now & will get the summit hc within the week. supposed to rain for the next week though.....
oh well, the geocaches will still be there when it dries up. and i should have the summit all set up & downloaded & everything by then right?

Re: HI, I'm Bobbie Jo
Just a point to remember, you will find some caches close to where they should be, and others seem to be purposely 40 feet away from Ground Zero (HZ)
Let me know how you like your new one.

Re: HI, I'm Bobbie Jo
purposely? i thought the point of the game was to find stuff that other people hid using a common system (gps). not to lie about the location. if you want to make something hard to find, we've thought of lots of ways to do that. if my husband or dad ever do a hide, i think there will be a lot of DNF's listed on them. and not because it's 40 ft away from where they say it is. thanks for the tip. good to know!

Re: HI, I'm Bobbie Jo
I hate to say this, but the longer you play the more you will find the caches that are like that. Now as for evil hides, there are some very nasty ones out there, and to be honest with you those are the ones we all talk about the most. Tell your dad, and husband to have at, we will look till we find them.

Re: HI, I'm Bobbie Jo
Bobby Jo. They do not post wrong cords. The GPS receivers that you can buy will have upto a 30 ft error. So combined with the placers GPSr and your GPSr error you can be upto 60 ft off. This is due to the way most commercial GPSr figure your position. (If you have a few thousand $ laying around you can buy a trimble surveying GPSr that has error of inches.) Most people who place caches will use the avg function for 5, 10 or 15 minutes to get the cords they upload to the cache page.
I hope this helps
