HI, I'm Bobbie Jo

Post  bobbiejo on Tue Oct 07, 2008 6:25 pm

hi. my name is bobbie jo and i'm jeisenbraun's neighbor. i may never forgive him for getting me into this. i've only been introduced this past saturday and i'm eating, sleeping, and dreaming (literally) about geocaching.... technically, my mom told me about and showed me this stuff, the same day jeff showed her.

i am a stay-at-home part-time-job mom. hope you don't mind a lady joining this board! queen well, maybe not a lady, but a female! Smile anyway, when i'm not chasing my 4-year-old Cole or my 1-year-old Justin around, i'm on the computer. my husband, another jeff, is a local truck driver delivering carpet & furniture, mostly in pa.

this geocaching is a major interest for me, jeff & cole!! justin's still a little young, but we're getting him young!

decided not to try for micros for a while til i get more experienced..... also got a triton 400 on a spur of the moment. thought it would be cool cuz it's "made" for geocaching...... seeing that was a mistake..... Sad i'm getting pretty aggravated trying to get it to work and i'm not sure which one i should get if i take it back.....

I have not heard much good about the triton series. I hope what ever you try next works better.

thanks. i'm looking at the etrex series, summit hc, vista hcx, 60csx and 76 csx. mostly cuz those are the ones with an electronic compass..... seems like a good feature.

Hey, sorry I am so late with this, but welcome to the group. Just wondering if your triton is doing any better for you. I use the Colorado, and I was a bit disappointed in it, but now I love it. It just had to grow on me. I am now looking at Wherigo, but I haven't tried it yet.

i took the triton back. i didn't like it. kept showing things upside down. we have a nuvi 260w that does ok. i would like to get a handheld with an electronic compass for my 4 year old to use. i was looking at the etrex summit hc. just waiting for a great deal to pop up on ebay.....

Do you use GSAK? If so there is a great micro for the Nuvi series GPSs. It creates a “Tour Guide” for the Nuvi that makes it almost paperless. It is a nice addition to GSAK, and it made my Nuvi a worthwhile addition to the caching experience.

yeah, i found that program and a macro that goes with it to make it extremely nice!! Smile i've never taken a paper with me! when jeff first taught my son to geocache, he showed him how to find it using a garmin 76 and following the compass. he had so much fun with that! within a couple days, all 3 of us fell in love with geocaching. the 1year old is still a little young to enjoy it, but me, my husband, and other son just can't get enough! since we returned the garmin 76, my son isn't having quite as much fun. it's hard for him to follow the nuvi...... so basically, it's just a tool for him to find the cache. i was thinking the summit hc because of the electronic compass. the other one (like on the 76 or the trition) keeps disappearing if you're not walking. any reason the summit hc wouldn't work for that, if you know?
